The Fort Ord Public Land is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, known as BLM.

Public access is available at:

  • BLM Office (near old Fort Ord Training Range 39) Water is available here. Port-A-Potty here.
  • Portola Rd off Reservation Rd. This is the planned site of a new parking area accommodating hikers, cyclists and equestrians. Port-A-Potty here.
  • Toro Creek Estates Gate off Highway 68 near the Toro Cafe. Port-A-Potty here.
  • Laguna Seca has multiple entry points on Trails 11 (Lookout Ridge), 47 (camping area), Barloy Canyon Rd (gate on road to the North parking & RV area) and Skyline Rd (near North bridge over raceway).
  • East Garrison / Reservation Rd Gate
  • Eucalyptus Rd, Gigling Rd and Watkins Gate Rd.

The Marina Equestrian Center suggests that you enter at the riding trails at the end of Inner Garrison Road, where parking is available for your horse trailer.

General Information

The lands were used by generations of military personnel and the discerning eye will find spent brass casings which mark the evolution of weapons from the 30-06 Springfield Rifle, the M1 Garand, M60 Machine Gun, M16 and the Squad Automatic Weapon.

There are hundreds of latrines in various states of disrepair but all are officially closed.

There are two Port-a-potty locations on the lands, one at the BLM Office Parking lot and the other at Portola Entrance so plan accordingly. There are "full service" washrooms on the Laguna Seca Property.

There is no potable water available on the trails. Pack in what you need. There is a 7-11 convenience store in the Toro Park Estates shopping center, off Highway 68 and tap water is available at the BLM Office and at Laguna Seca.

Cell phone coverage is good on the ridges but can be limited in the canyons.
